Job Opportunity at the Dailey
The Dailey Memorial Library in Derby, VT is seeking a part-time youth services librarian with a strong commitment to public service. The position involves providing library services and programming for and with youth aged 0-18 years of age and having constant contact and collaboration with youth and caregivers including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Duties include assisting youth in their library activities, conducting preschool story times, planning and organizing summer reading programs for school-aged children, planning and organizing weekend and after school programs and activities as well as special holiday events, advocating for the library’s youth programs, and attending professional conferences, seminars, and classes to keep current with this field.
This position is 10-12 hours per week. Requirements are eligibility to work in the U.S., a high school diploma with some college preferred, and at least one year of experience working in libraries or running programs for youth.

VHC Book Discussion Series “Material Culture in Literature”
Our library will hold a winter book discussion series examining material culture in literature. This program is sponsored by a grant from the Vermont Humanities Council, and scholar Rachael Cohen will lead the discussions. Sessions will be on Sunday afternoons at 1:30 according to the following schedule: January 4th: A Midwife’s Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich; February 1st: All That She Carried by Tiya Miles; March 1st: Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier; and March 29th: Accordion Crimes by E. Annie Proulx. Books are available at the library.
Pre-School Story Time
Story Time will begin again on Friday, September 5th. Our new Youth Librarian, Miss JJ will present a new year of books, crafts, songs, and games. The fun begins at 10:30.
Crafternoons at the Library
Bring your knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and other projects to the library on Thursdays from 1:30 until 3:30 and enjoy the company of other crafters. Tea and coffee will be available.
Biblio-Plus: A new streaming service for Libraries
Our library now subscribes to a new streaming service containing thousands of movies, series, and award-winning documentaries. Biblio-Plus is an app especially designed for libraries, and it can be downloaded on any device. Just download the app and use your library name, card number, and password to log in, as you would with Libby or the Palace app. Call or stop by the library if you need help.
Palace Project: New e-books and e-audiobooks
Great News!!! In addition to our Green Mountain e-book/e-audiobook library consortium (GMLC or the Libby App), we are now a member of the Palace Project, which will include e-books and e-audiobooks from the Palace App as well as a great new collection from the Vermont Department of Libraries. To access this collection, download the Palace App onto your phone or computer and use your library number and password (same as GMLC/Libby) to log in. New Login Information for Green Mountain Library Consortium
We have a new login system for GMLC including the Libby and Overdrive apps. The card number is the full number on your library card, and our default password is userpass. The password is only different if you created an account with a different password on our library catalog. Please call the library at 766-5063 with questions or if you need your card information.
Little Free Libraries
We now have two Little Free Libraries registered and on the LFL World map. Located in Scampy's Store in West Charleston and next to the Town Clerk's Office in Morgan, the little libraries are dedicated to former librarian Barbara Whitehill. Please visit them anytime and take a book or leave one-they are fully stocked with both adult and kids' books.
